ANAGAMA FIRING COURSE

Henry Bird Side stoking

Join me on week long workshop which will take you through the process of packing and firing an Anagama kiln. Bring a selection of your own work to be put in the kiln and join a small group of other ceramicists to learn key skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete a wood firing. Prior to the firing, online workshops will give you an insight into the range of unique effects that can be achieved in a prolonged firing such as this. Discussing clays, glazes and slips you will learn practical skills and knowledge which can be applied to your work leading up to the firing. You will join me at my kiln; situated in the beautiful Gweek Valley overlooking the Helford River In Cornwall. This is a unique location and one that is perfect for exploring the Lizard Peninsular and all the beautiful sights it has to offer.

Testimonials

“It really was a most remarkable experience - thank you!”

“The zoom discussions we had before the firing were so beneficial. I’m naturally a deep thinker, and it usually takes me some time to digest what I’ve learned. This experience has given me the space to reflect and ponder things beforehand”

“Thanks for everything John! I really love my pots and am learning so much looking at them. I am so happy this was my first wood firing experience, as, having seen the results others have brought back from less guided firings, I'm not sure I would have been so excited if my first firing had been one of those. Thanks so much for all your energy, expertise and kindness.”

“I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely like to come back again.”

“I really appreciate the continuous dialogue and the ability to ask questions. I know the kiln is still very new, but it was great to see how you fire it and thank you for sharing the experience with us. I would definitely love to come back!”
